Case Study: Custom Rope Tieback Alteration
When a designer approaches us with a challenge like custom tieback draperies, we like to put all the options on the table. The goal is to let the designer’s preferences naturally work with our knowledge and expertise to create an ideal outcome.
A recent project called for a truly bespoke and creative drapery solution. The goal was to develop a custom rope tieback solution that worked with the existing design aesthetic: a regal, stately great room.
We were brought in to help with material selection, drapery placement, and overall flow for the project. In this case, we worked with Kim Layne at Kim Layne Interior Design to develop a fabulous solution for installing beautiful, functional draperies in the great room.
Custom Rope Tieback Dimensions
The interior space we were working with definitely lived up to the ‘Great Room’ moniker. Tall ceilings and a curved arch alcove demanded the use of bold, elegant draperies that made a statement.
Because of the scale of this space, pre-made rope-and-tassel options wouldn’t work. This is because virtually all off-the-shelf options only measure 18” in overall length, not the 36” inches we needed to complete the tieback.
We encounter this sort of challenge a lot. When interior spaces like this have such large, spanning features, not just any stock drapery solution will do.
The Solution
To give this great room alcove the drapery treatment worthy of its stately dimensions, we needed to execute a significant modification to an agreed-upon rope-and-tassel choice.
To do this, we purchased the tassel tieback and pre-made rope as part of a complete kit.
Then, because the included rope was too short, we removed it and replaced it with thicker, more theme-appropriate rope that better matched the colorway of the draperies.
The new rope for each tieback needed to be approximately 170” long so it could be double-stranded and knotted in a way that coordinated with the overall design.
We think you’ll agree that the outcome is nothing short of breathtaking!
The new tieback rope combined with the white-to-gray tassels resulted in a modern, polished look that compliments the space incredibly well.
This case study is a perfect example of how dramatically the right draperies can change the look, feel, and presentation of any interior space.
At Precision Draperies, we work with designers, architects, and builders to develop complete drapery solutions that are truly customized for the application.
